STHS Graduation Ceremony

STHS Graduation Ceremony - ONE CEREMONY
Posted on 05/01/2020

Edgefield County School District is proud to announce that our Strom Thurmond High School Class of 2020 Commencement will be held on June 5th in one ceremony at 10:00 a.m.  Due to the active presence of COVID-19 in our community, it is of utmost importance to ensure the safest possible arrangements.  Our plans strictly follow the recommendations provided by the State Department, CDC, and DHEC.  As we adhere to these necessary restrictions, we take great pride in being able to still honor this year’s graduates in the long standing tradition of a face-to-face ceremony in the Strom Thurmond High School Stadium.  We hope that these ceremonies will bring some semblance of normalcy to our seniors and will reflect the Rebel Pride that unites our community.  The following is an outline of measures and precautions that will be taken at this year’s graduation ceremony.  All guidelines listed will be strictly enforced.

Per recommendation from the State Department, each graduate will receive two tickets for guests to attend graduation. Visitors MUST present their ticket upon entrance to the parking area.  NO ONE will be allowed to enter the parking area or stadium without a ticket.

Guests will enter the gate at their graduate’s assigned ticket booth. (Guests assigned to the visitor stands will enter next to the band room, and guests assigned to the home stands will enter next to the baseball field.) Each guest’s temperature will be taken before entrance into the stadium is permitted. More information will be released to graduates regarding entrance and seating specifics.

Per state and local guidelines for social distancing, guests are asked to remain at least 6 feet away from others at all times when entering and leaving the stadium.  During the ceremony, guests are to sit ONLY with immediate family and 6 feet from other guests in designated areas.

There will be sanitizing stations for use throughout the stadium.  Visitors are asked to frequently sanitize their hands and avoid touching their mouth, nose, and eyes.
Masks are not required but are recommended.

No more than 3 people will be allowed in the restrooms at any given time. We ask that guests follow guidelines set by the restroom attendees and law enforcement stationed outside of these areas.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, all guests will be required to remain seated until they are dismissed by officials.  We recommend that pictures be taken off campus either before or after the ceremony as all guests MUST leave campus immediately following graduation. No loitering will be permitted.

The ceremony will be live streamed via the District and School Websites. More information will be made available as the time approaches.

During these trying times, the Strom Thurmond High School administration, faculty, and staff continue to exemplify the “Pride, Class, Courage and the Will to Win” spirit.  We are proud to provide this in-person graduation opportunity to the Class of 2020. For those family members and friends who are unable to join us due to the unfortunate guest limitation, please join us live stream as we celebrate our seniors.   Thank you all for your patience and support through the planning process and request your understanding as we continue to monitor and navigate through this situation.  Lastly, we proudly charge the STHS Class of 2020 with our Alma Mater lines “Though our paths may be troubled and imperiled, her light guides the way to victory”  as we commend them on their shining relentless Rebel spirit that triumphs over the unprecedented obstacles of COVID-19.
