Strom Thurmond High School and Strom Thurmond Career and Technical Center announce several additions to their faculty for the 2018-2019 year.

Our first educator is not new to the school district at all and also graduated from STHS in 1997.  Hope Jernigan worked in the STCTC with Vocational Rehabilitation finding part-time positions for current students.  This year Mrs. Jernigan, who has an undergraduate and Masters Degree in psychology from Anderson University, will be teaching a special education class.

Josh Letko, originally from upstate New York, graduating from SUNY (State University of New York) Brockport. Mr. Letko ended up in South Carolina after being stationed at Fort Benning and he continues to serve in the military as an active duty National Guardsman.  Mr. Letko teaches English I.

Another graduate of STHS, Emilie Mallet will also teach English I. After having lived in Virginia for several years as a day support counselor, she moved back to South Carolina to teach.  “I am so happy to be home,” exclaimed Mrs. Mallet.

Jason Megran started out in Colorado, then to Minnesota, and after graduation lived in Peru for two years, where he learned to speak Spanish fluently. He is teaching Spanish 2 and 3 and claims, “Everyone at STHS is great!” He hopes to bring a positive energy to the foreign language program.

Coach Art Mann comes to STHS from McCormick County. He also played football for Mars Hill University. Coach Mann’s wife, Andrea Mann teaches at STHS also, while his two daughters are students here.

Last, but not least, is Jay Torgesen, an avid runner and swimmer who will be teaching U.S. History, Psychology and Sociology. Mr. Torgesen is also with the Army National Guard.

A hearty welcome to all and thank you for choosing Edgefield County to teach our students!
